Dan Bartow’s dream of opening an upscale, casual, family-oriented restaurant became a reality on May 30, 2002, with the grand opening of Legends Eatery located on the North Side of Pittsburgh. This native New Yorker has welcomed over 59,000 customers to the restaurant with his continental Italian specialties. His customers not only come from the North Side but all over the tri-state area — Monroeville, South Hills, Upper St. Clair, Cranberry Township, Sewickley, and Allison Park. Chef Dan’s passion for searching Pittsburgh’s Strip District for the freshest and finest ingredients compliments his personally selected menu. 

A PROUD PITTSBURGH TRADITION 

The North Shore of Pittsburgh has recently been the center of a number of redevelopment projects which marks the beginning of the “Third Renaissance” for the “Steel City.” Legends of the North Shore Restaurant further encompass this legendary facelift on the North Side and has been a definite welcome to the neighborhood. 

Walking through the front door of the establishment, you first smell the aromas of fresh baked bread, and at the same time, observe great Italian food being prepared by a talented kitchen. As you sit at the bar, waiting for your table, possibly enjoying a glass of wine—you can’t help but wonder how it all started. 

Daniel J. Bartow was born in Long Island, New York, graduated from Sullivan College in upstate New York, interned at The Disney Inn at Walt Disney World in Orlando, and worked at the Flying Bridge Restaurant in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He continued to perfect his Italian cuisine while working and managing a number of local restaurants. But it wasn’t until working at Legends on the Green Restaurant, located in the South Hills, that his entrepreneurial future was destined for restaurant ownership. 

Legends Eatery not only boasts the finest Italian food in the city—but it’s also a family business. His wife Zoe, children Kristopher and Danyelle, and mother-in-law, Connie Springhetti (RIP) all work together to achieve one collective goal—consistently offering excellent food with caring service and providing an ambiance marked by excellence and simple elegance. 

Chef Dan has prepared his culinary masterpieces for residents on the North Side for over 20 years, with other customers having stopped in from Georgia, New York, California, and even as far away as Rome and Puerto Rico! The things that every customer will agree on—the food is wonderful, the atmosphere is something to behold, but more importantly, they’ll be back!
